HP 401 USB Printer Won’t Install

We had a situation where we were installing an HP printer via USB. This should have been the easiest set up; however, the printer wouldn’t install correctly. We followed the instructions from HP which was to disconnect the USB cable, run the installation package, and when prompted hook the USB up.

Well the install process would finish, but the printer showed up in “Devices and Printer” as a Media Device. We discovered we needed to turn off the “Smart Install“, and the printer would install as a printer. The following article helped us.

Error Code 49.4C02 On HP Printer

We had a customer getting this error when printing a PDF. It was a networked printer so once one job failed the rest would stack up. Working with a printer repair company they sent us on the right path to get this resolved.

  • Delete out any queued print jobs.
  • Update Acrobat Reader to the latest version.
  • Power-cycle the printer by turning the printer power off, wait 10 seconds, and turn the printer back on.

Word 2016 Not Using My Default Printer – Print To PDF Instead

We got a call from a customer that was unable to print a document out of Word. We could use the “Printer Properties” in the “Control Panel” and print a test page. I could print out of Notepad just fine. When we tried to print from Word it was selecting “Print To PDF” when the default printer was a HP 3015.

We found advice on the Web for just plan re-installing the printer.

We reinstalled the printer driver and this resolved the issue.
