Critical Error Event ID: 41 – The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first

We have seen this several times and different users out there have their fix for it. At first I would be looking at the power supply as the suspect, but others are pointing to the “Power Options”.

I got a call for this error today and changed the power options to “never” turn of display or computer. I also went into the the advanced options and manually typed in “never” for turning off the “hard disk”.

UPDATE:
(8/21/2020):
I had this happen again to another machine to which may have been ready to go into a sleep mode; however, when the BSOD showed up there was “video TDR failure” mentioned. In following this error message I came across the following article which actually may be a better solution to this issue.

Barracuda X100 – Temporary Unavailable

We have a customer that maintains a Barracuda X100 firewall, and they were suddenly getting “Temporarly Unavailable” when trying to access the web interface. The following article was a help getting us access to the admin console.

After  the “/cgi-mod” in the URL we added “/index.cgi?error=3&locale=en_US&primary_tab=ADVANCED&secondary_tab=troubleshooting” ( without the quotes), and hit enter.  We could then access the admin panel.

Gantry 5 Hydrogen WordPress Module Position Not Showing

We were working with Gantry 5 Hydrogen theme in WAMP and couldn’t get the module positions to show in the Widget area. We added the Module Position to the template; however, when we went into the Widgets area that position didn’t show. We have done this feat before, but for some reason not working this time.

It was solved when we moved the site to the new hosting. It was a PHP issue. Localhost we were running 5.5 and on the server is 7.1.

Install Visio 2016 With Office 2016

We recently ran into the issue when trying to install Visio 2016 32-bit when we had Office 2016 64-bit.

We solved this issue by uninstalling the office 2016, installing Visio, and then re-installing Office. Outlook even keep the profile.

Outlook – Invalid index. (Exception from HRESULT:0x8002000B(DISP_E_BADINDEX))

We had a customer who was having an issue with Outlook 2016. They were getting a dialog box with the error: Invalid index. (Exception from HRESULT:0x8002000B(DISP_E_BADINDEX)).

I did a quick repair on the Outlook program, but this didn’t fix the issue. Others on the web found the issue resides in the Add-ins.

How to find and disable Outlook 2016, 2013 and 2010 Add-ins and plugins

In Outlook >> File >> Options >> Add-ins we discovered a “Sage” add-in. They use Sage for their banking but felt that shouldn’t be attached to their email. We turned off the “Sage” add-in and we were no longer getting the issue.

Check Website To See If It Is Optimized

There are so many tools out there to evaluate your website, but somehow when it comes from Google it is the one I trust the most. Google has been writing the book on page ranking for years, so I am putting my faith in their tool to be a good one.

I ran an test on my new site as comparison to the old site and this tool made me feel really good about the work I was doing. I was so happy about it I decided to make this post. Here is a link to Google’s tool.

Never Purchase Office From Dell

We recently purchased 7 machines from Dell and we ordered Office 2016. Our recommendation is to never do this. Dell sells the product without a product key or Activation code. They force you to deal with Microsoft to get it activated. This is an issue because the association is strictly based off of the email address of the purchase. This is an issue because in order to activate the product you have to create a new Microsoft email account and associate the Office with the new email.

You can easily see that Microsoft will have no idea of the association between the purchase and the new email account. We found countless posts over this same issue.

Here is the biggest joke. This is the statement officially from Dell.

Beginning December 16, 2016, if you purchased a Microsoft Office product with your Dell system, you will not receive an Office product key card to activate your product. Instead, you must activate your Office product through your Microsoft Account (MSA). If you do not have an MSA, you will be directed to create one the first time you open any Office application.

As you can see if you don’t have a Microsoft account they want you to create one. Again how does Microsoft know the association between the Dell purchase and the license.

In conclusion, when purchasing a new computer from Dell we would advise to never purchase Microsoft Office from Dell.

Godaddy Cpanel Email – Can Send But Not Receive

We had a customer discontinue their email package from Godaddy and started to just use the CPanel email. A week later customer wasn’t receiving emails. I could login in to the webmail and send, but I couldn’t receive.

The issue was with the DNS and the mail record. The MX had 2 records and the 2 CName entries had two mail records that needed to be deleted and a MX & an A record needed to be added.

You can quickly access your DNS in a Godaddy account by logging into your Godaddy account and going to https://dcc.secureserver.net.

Set Up Office 365 Email Account In Office 2007

We have a customer with Office 2007 and needed to set up an Office 365 account. Auto Discover was looking for the server, so I put in “outlook.office.com

VIPRE – A problem has occurred in VIPRE Threat Scanner

We had a customer who was having VIPRE pop ups. Here is a screenshot of what they were getting.

I contacted VIPRE and they knew right a way how to fix it. They said it was a bad definition that came down in early February. The fix is to download a small file that will remove the old definitions and restart the agent.  Here is the link they sent us.

I ran the executable which only took few minutes and I got a popup saying VIPRE was my antivirus. I could see in the VIPRE Console on the server that the definitions were updating, so the Console and the agent were communicating again.
